Ghost Soldiers

While drawing these two men I made up stories about them. I wondered if they were friends, or lovers, or if they had some other connection besides serving in the army. Why did they have their picture taken together? Was it for them to remember each other after the war was over, or was it meant for someone they both knew, to hold on to if they never made it back.

What were they fighting for?

They might both have been the most important person in someone else's life, and now, if someone remember them at all, their faces are not as vivid as they once were.
